St. Thomas’ has intentionally been exploring who is our neighbor. In Lent, we explored racism and white privilege in a six-week series; we also had a afternoon workshop focused on combatting Anti-Semitism. St. Margaret’s has invited the people of St. Margaret’s, St. Thomas and St. Luke’s to meet with Imam Mohamad Bashar Arafat, a Muslim scholar with rich interfaith experience, on Thursday, May 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at St. Margaret’s Parish Hall (1830 Connecticut Avenue, NW). Imam Bashar will share his experiences, which range from spiritual encounters to civil society partnering, in a brief opening statement. He will then engage us in dialogue about what we can do to support the Muslim community and to combat the demons of religious intolerance.
